Basic Skin Care

Healthy and supple skin is not so much of a dream if you take proper precautions and pay attention to your diet and exercise. Balanced diet, hydration and protecting from sun and wind should be a part of your daily regimen. Here are the four basic steps to skin care that are mandatory and cannot be skipped on any account, if you want a naturally glowing skin. It is important that you use the products according to your skin type. You have to pay attention to the order of the steps too:
1. Cleansing The Skin
Cleansing is quite essential to avoid acnes and other skin problems. Wash your skin often using a mild face wash and wipe off with a clean washcloth. It is quite important to get rid of any impurities such as dirt particles and makeup before going to sleep so that your skin can breathe properly at night. Use mild cleanser at least twice a day but make sure that it rinses away easily, does not cause skin irritation and do not wash away natural oils too.

2. Toning The Skin
Toners not only cleanse the skin further and help in removing any remnants of particles that you may have left behind but also cools, nourishes, hydrates and freshens up your skin. It tightens up skin and close up any skin pores that may have opened up while deep cleansing the face. Toners must be alcohol-free as alcohol dries off skin.

3. Exfoliating The Skin
Exfoliants remove dead cells from the skin, rejuvenate the skin and eliminate fine lines and wrinkles from the face. The younger skin that surfaces after exfoliation naturally looks more beautiful and glowing. These products usually have alpha or beta hydroxy acids to quicken up the process but do avoid the ones that are granular as they tend to damage the new skin too that is much more sensitive than the mature layer that it digests.

4. Moisturizing The Skin
Like our body, our skin also needs hydration and proper nutrients to keep it healthy. So, treat it with a good moisturizer and a broad-spectrum sunscreen with more than SPF 15 daily and night cream daily that helps the skin to balance and restores any damage that might have occurred to it overnight.

Makeup Guide

All those models may appear damn gorgeous, but very few know the factor behind those killer looks. Obviously to look beautiful, one needs to be in perfect shape; but one more thing contributing to that perfection is the right make-up. An average looking face can be made pretty by using correct make-up. Coming to the technical part, make-up is a sub-set of cosmetics and refers mainly to the colored products which are used to change the user's appearance. In today's world when there are ample of make-up products in the markets, it becomes difficult for a person to choose the right ones. Read make-up guide further to gather more information about make-up, its types and variation ideas.

Understand Your Skin Type
The first key to make-up is, understanding your skin type. People with different skin types require different type of make-up. Say, a woman having oily skin could not afford glossy make-up. Likewise, a girl with dry skin cannot use matt-finish make-up. However, a person with normal skin can experiment with any type of make-up. If you know your skin-type, it would be much easier for you to buy the right make-up products.

Check Out The Make-Up Products
As mentioned, markets are loaded with beauty products. Some of the make-up products for lips are lipstick, lip gloss, lip liner, lip plumper, lip balm, lip conditioner, and lip booster; for face are foundation, powder, rouge, blush or blusher, bronzer, and concealer; for eyes are mascara and lash extender, lash conditioner, eye liner, eye shadow, eye shimmer, and glitter eye pencils, eyebrow pencils, creams, waxes, gels and powders; for nails are nail polish, etc. Choose the products about to your requirements and skin type.

Types of Make-Up - To Know What Suits You The Best
Some people prefer to have natural look, while some wanted to have those stunning looks. It is a matter of choice that's for sure. For a sun-kissed look, women use more of bronzer and shimmers. However, makeup in the form of gel is usually used to impart wet-look. Women, who want to look beautiful at all times, get permanent make-up done which is actually a type of cosmetic surgery. However, ladies, who prefer natural look, opt for organic mineral make-up which contains mineral pigments and organic plant extracts, oils and waxes. Organic make-up is definitely good as it doesn't cause any harm to the skin or other body parts.

Make-Up According To Occasions
Every time you cannot afford to look like a princess. According to the occasion and time, you must make variations in your make-up. Say, on a hot summery day, glossy make-up or dark shades won't make you appealing to the onlooker. At that time, it would be better to use mild shades and sober make-up. For a social gathering, you must do make-up according to your attire and party-mood. Perhaps it is always better to use softer shades in summers; however dark shades appear okay at night. Likewise, dark shades and glossy make-up appear nice in winters. On daily basis, women like to do minimal make-up which is easy to apply, making them look naturally good.

Shaving Tips For Woman

Shaving among women became the rage during World War II when the supply of nylon stockings plummeted. It was then that the trend of bare legs started and to this day is a fashion statement. Today though many women wax their legs, shaving is still the least expensive way to remove your hair. Shaving has to be done carefully or it will result in nicks and irritation. Here are a few shaving tips for women to ensure that they are doing it right.
  • Do not shave dry skin. Wet your skin and let the moisture soften your skin. Shaving is a natural exfoliator and if your skin is dry, your razor will get blocked with dead skin and you are likely to nick yourself as well.
  • Do not waste money by buying creams specially made for women, as they are almost the same as those made for men.
  • To find the perfect razor you will just have to use all those available and choose the one that you like best. You can ask your friends who shave to recommend razors. Look for a razor with lubricated strips, pivoting heads and spring mounted multiple blades.
  • Exfoliate before you shave to ensure that the dead skin cells do not clog your razor and prevent a close shave.
  • For your legs you will have begin shaving from your ankles and then work upwards. For your underarms you will have to shave in every direction as hair grows in every direction under your arm.
  • After you have finished shaving apply oil or moisturizer. The skin on your leg has few oil glands and hence may become dry.
  • When hair curls back under the skin it caused ingrown hairs. To avoid ingrown hairs exfoliate everyday and use a glycolic acid body lotions.
  • If you have a chronic case of ingrown hairs then use a lotion that is specially made for ingrown hairs, that is easily available at the chemists. Apply it in the morning and at night and the bumps will vanish within a few days.
  • If you shave your legs coarse hair will grow back fast. Therefore consider waxing your legs at least.
For decades now, women have been removing unwanted body hair, using different techniques. Not only does it add to the woman's beauty but it is better for her personal hygiene as well. Today getting rid of unwanted hair has become easier than ever. There are a number of easy techniques that you can use at home or you can visit a beauty parlor for professional treatment. Given below in some information about the different techniques that are available today.
  • Shaving: Shaving is a popular technique as it can be done at short notice and gives you instant results without much effort. Most women still continue to shave inspite of alternate techniques being available. This method is quick and cheap, though the hair grows back rapidly and when the hair grows back it is very coarse. You should soften the hair by washing the area with warm soapy water. Use light gentle strokes in the direction of the hair growth, to remove the hair. After you finish moisturize the skin. There are different kinds of razors, electrical, disposable, with twin blades and moisturizing strips. Choose one that suits you the best.
  • Hair Removal Creams: These creams are manufactured in such a way that they dissolve the hair. These creams have an ingredient called keratolytic that will damage the skin if it is left on for a long time. Use a patch test the first time you are using a cream. But there is no doubt that they make the skin hair free, smooth and soft.
  • Waxing: Though this method is a little painful, it is good to remove hair from the arms, legs and bikini line. Hair re-growth after waxing is slow and may take as much as two months. It is best to do a patch test for waxing as well. For best results one should continue waxing on a regular basis. Hair is removed from its root and when it re-grows it is finer. The problem with waxing is that the hair has to grow a little for waxing to be efficient. It helps to dust a little talcum powder on the area before waxing.
  • Sugaring: This technique is similar to waxing. Here the removal solution is warmed and then applied on the area required with the help of a palette knife. The solution is applied in the direction of the hair growth. Then a cotton strip is used to cover the solution and torn away in the opposite direction and thus the hair is removed. Hair re-growth takes about six to eight weeks and it is fine.
  • Electrolysis: This is a salon treatment and is expensive, but last longer and could be permanent as well. This requires a series of sittings if the results are to be good. A fine needle passes a very low electrical current into the hair follicle. After a session there will be slight swelling, redness and scarring which will take a few days to disappear.
  • Laser treatment: This is another salon-based treatment that is expensive too. You need a few sessions for good results. Black activating lotion is applied over the area, to enable the hair follicle to absorb the laser energy. In this technique the best results are got from people with thick body hair.

Dull and dreary hair takes away half the beauty of the face. Healthy, glossy, manageable hair that reflects light and falls around the face beautifully, is the dream of every woman that is not so difficult to attain after all. Here are a few tips to make your hair shine:
  • Bring instant shine to your hair by lightly beating two eggs in milk and massaging them in your hair thoroughly. Rinse after five minutes.
  • A little vodka in your shampoo, if used occasionally, can make your thick hair shine instantly.
  • Yet another way to make your hair shine for blondes is to add two tablespoons of lemon juice in your rinse water after shampooing, while brunettes and redheads can add apple cider vinegar to their rinse water.
  • Everybody can get a vibrant hair color by wisely using his or her garden products! Brunettes can use handful of fresh rosemary sprigs, blondes can use dried chamomile, orange-tone redheads can use chopped up carrot while berry-tone redheads can use chopped up beet. Boil one quart of water. Tie the suitable ingredient according to your hair color in a piece of doubled cheesecloth and toss it into the boiling water. Remove them from heat and let the water soak the color for about 10 minutes. Then, remove the cheesecloth bag. Shampoo and rinse your hair thoroughly. Pour the color enhancer you have prepared over your hair, while it is warm. Be sure it is not hot. Rinse it finally with a quart of cold water. Do this once a month for that lustrous hair posed by models.
  • Honey is good for skin and hair. Take 4 cups of warm water and stir 1 teaspoon of honey in it. Pour it into your hair after shampooing and let the hair dry as normal. You don't need to rinse it.
  • Over-processed hair lose their shine too so be careful nor to overuse all those chemical hair products in the market. Silicone products add shine to hair momentarily but are difficult to wash out causing a buildup that make your hair dull. Vinegar rinse should be used sparingly too or it may dry out your hair.
  • Cold water rinsing makes your hair look shinier as it closes and smoothens the hair cuticle. To further enhance the shine, you can use a finishing crème during and after blow-drying your hair.
  • Adding shine to gray hair and keeping them from getting that yellow tint can be difficult. However a professional gloss treatment at the salon seals the cuticle and makes the hair look shinier than ever. It lasts for five weeks.
  • Heat activated shampoos and weekly deep conditioning for your hair keep them glossy.

How to Apply Mascara

  • Tip #1: How to properly apply mascara. Ace your mascara application with a three-step process:

Step 1: Wiggle the wand left to right at the base of lashes. It's the mascara placed near the roots -- not the tips -- that gives the illusion of length.

Step 2: Pull the wand up and through lashes, wiggling as you go. The wiggling part is key: Wiggling separates lashes.

Step 3: In this final step (which I always skip), close the eye and place the mascara wand on top of lashes at the base and pull through to remove any clumps.

  • Tip #2: Keep lashes from clumping. For some, lash combs are simply too fussy. But for some makeup artists, they're a great invention and keep lashes glob-free and perfectly separated.

So how to use? Apply mascara at the lash base. Then wiggle the lash comb through to the tips of your lashes.

Not into the lash comb? Get rid of clumbs without them by removing excess mascara from the wand. Wipe wand on tissue, this eliminates blobs BEFORE you start.

  • Tip #3: Try a spoolie (a disposable mascara wand). Sweep a clean, fresh mascara wand through lashes when they're wet. You can buy a pack at Ricky's ($5 for 15) at rickysnyc.com or look for them in any store that carries specialty beauty products. {p] You can also recycle old mascara wands. When you finish a mascara, clean the wand in a capful of eye makeup remover, then wash with soap and dry. Keep it clean by washing it whenever you wash your makeup tools.

  • Tip #4: Mix mascaras. A trick makeup artists use to make lashes pop is apply one coat of lengthening mascara, followed by one coat of thickening mascara. Remove excess product with a clean spoolie wand (see tip #3 above).

  • Tip #5: Don't shy away from colored mascara. Basic mascara rules are simple: Black works for everyone but can be harsh on light-skinned blondes. Blondes should opt for brown/black by day and reserve black for night.

Blue mascara brightens blue eyes while purple mascara makes brown eyes pop. The most popular mascara sold in the US is Maybelline Great Lash mascara (pictured here), a great buy at under $6. The company estimates one tube is sold every 1.6 seconds in the U.S.

  • Tip #6: Use an eyelash curler Curling lashes gives eyes the appearance of being wider and brighter. Shoot warm air from your blowdryer on the mascara curler for 3-5 seconds to warm it up before curling lashes. Touch it first to make sure it's not too hot. It's a myth that you have to curl lashes before you apply mascara. You can curl lashes after mascara application, just make sure the mascara is dry first. Shu Uemura makes the most popular eyelash curler on the market.

  • Tip #7: Give a few coats to the edges by blinking. Blink onto the brush to give ends an extra coat.

  • Tip #8: Powder under the eye before applying mascara. Sometimes mascara smudges because it's attracted to oily concealer or eye creams.

  • Tip #9: Zig-zag the wand. Zig-zagging the wand back and forth during application helps cut down clumps.

  • Tip #10: For a dramatic look, apply mascara only to the upper lashes. To make eyes seem wider, apply to the bottom, too. But make sure you give lashes a light touch. Not great at getting those bottom lashes? Try putting a tissue under them before application.

  • Tip #11: Use a mascara primer. Primers coat lashes and separate them before you apply mascara. Makeup artists swear by mascara primer. I tried it and like it, but because it's an added step, I usually use primer only on special occasion when I spend more time on my makeup. My hands-down favorite is Lancome'sCils Booster XL.

  • Tip #12: Want that 2nd coat? Just make sure to do it before the first coat dries, otherwise you'll get clumps.

  • Tip #13: Do NOT pump wand in and out of the tube. This only introduces air into the tube, which will cause your mascara to dry out sooner than it should.

  • Tip #14: Another smudge-proof tip -- bend the wand. A top makeup artist once gave his secret to his steady hand: he always bends his wand at a right angle.

  • Tip #15: Wait five seconds before blinking. You don't want to paint your lids, do you?
