THE WONDERS YOUR KITCHEN CONTAINS !

Here is a selection of must-try-at-home tips..

Beer:

Washing your hair with beer will leave it soft and shiny. Traditional real ale will work best. It’s said to be full of protein which is good for hair strength and growth. Mix beer with water and honey to make it less potent and prepare to smell like a brewery. Make sure you rinse this out with warm water after.

Toothpaste

This stings like hell but it does clear skin blemishes by drying them out due to the active ingredient benzoyl peroxide found in most toothpastes.

Honey:

This is one of the oldest moisturisers in the world. It works by nourishing the skin. Honey removes dirt, is antibacterial, soothing and smoothing and regulates moisture levels. It works on all skin types but especially for blemished, dry and sensitive skin.

Tomato sauce:

If you want to rejuvenate blonde and get rid of brassy tones, tomato sauce will “lift” the colour. It acts as an antioxidant and can neutralise green tones because of the red pigment in it.

Aspirin:

In order to get relief from dandruff, mix two to three aspirins in your normal shampoo. Expensive dandruff shampoo contains salicylic acid which is present in aspirin, so it works in the same way. It will act immediately to clear your scalp of dandruff and grime at a fraction of the cost.

Salt:

Rough sea salt can be used on wet skin as a natural way of exfoliating and removing dead skin cells. When used regularly, your skin will look clean and healthy. Mix the salt with honey or essential oils for a sweeter aroma.

Chilli:

Eat a spicy meal or rub mild chillis directly on to your lips. This will cause your lips to swell and save pounds on lip plumping.

Teabags

Many believe that cold teabags can relieve tired and puffy eyes. No need for milk and sugar – just ten minutes of your time. The tannin in tea bags has been proven to reduce swelling and discoloration.

Cucumber

Cucumber slices have long been used to reduce puffiness and refresh the appearance of skin around the eyes due to being primarily composed of water. They also contain ascorbic acid, vitamin C and caffeic acid which help soothe skin irritations.

Teaspoons:

Put a teaspoon in the fridge before you go to bed and place it on your puffy eyes in the morning for ten minutes. The icy cool of the metal will relieve sore, tired eyes.

Olive oil:

For dry and damaged hair, use a mix of olive oil and essential oils. This works as an emollient and restores the weakest and most brittle of tresses. For super-damaged hair, use equal amounts of olive oil, coconut milk, honey and light sesame oil then add a couple of eggs. Blend all this together, leave on overnight and this nourishing concoction will work wonders.

Lemon

A slice of lemon will help to lighten darker patches on your body but do not use it on dry or sensitive skin. Squeezing some lemon juice on your roots or mousey coloured hair will also lighten it up. Lemon juice does not require sunshine to work. The acids it contains work on their own to bleach hair or skin.

Potato:

Use thin potato slices to cover your eyes for ten minutes. They are rumoured to lighten dark circles. Potatoes contain an enzyme called catecholase which is used in cosmetics as a skin lightener.

Chamomile tea:

This is great for calming a nervous stomach and relieving menstrual cramps. It also works wonders on dull and damaged hair. Pour room temperature chamomile tea over your head letting it soak in for two to three minutes. Do this regularly for a noticeable difference. Chamomile lightens up any hair colour but especially light brown and blonde.

Mayonnaise:

This is the most common food used to restore moisture and shine to locks. The popularity of this treatment is due to the three main ingredients: Eggs, vinegar and oil.

Each of the ingredients can be used individually to provide volume, shine, and hydration to your hair, or you can get the benefits of all three by using mayo. Massage it through and keep it in overnight (wrap your hair in clingfilm). Rinse out carefully with cool water
